TEMPE, Ariz. - November 21, 2005 - ESS and the National Institute of Urban Search and Rescue (NIUSR) announced today that Crisis Management and automated geographic applications expert John Gargett has been appointed to the NIUSR Executive Board.

Gargett, Product Manager for Emergency Management at ESS, has more than 20 years experience in incident management. During that period, he has worked in more than 21 countries, including Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras, New Zealand and Trinidad. He also participated in the development of the Somali Relief and Rehabilitation Information Network, response efforts after the Oklahoma City bombing and the creation of Essential Incident Master™ software solution that was used to support Hurricane Katrina response operations.

"We have been associated with John for years," said Lois Clark-McCoy, NIUSR President. "He is an absolute icon in the business and represents the very essence of our organization's vision."

The association and its executive board of 40 members include representatives from city and state government, academia and organizations focused in the development of response and communication technologies. The group meets as least three times a year to discuss how to most effectively leverage technology across the crisis management community, from federal agencies and the military to first responders and emergency managers.

"I am pleased and honored to join such a select group of professionals equally dedicated to the advancement of technology used in crisis response," said Gargett. "It is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in a sector that has finally come of age."
